ID-card producing plant to be built in Tashkent
An agreement was reached between the National Interbank Processing Center and Veridos on the implementation of a project to organize production of microprocessor, contactless and other plastic cards in Uzbekistan, the government decree says.
The project envisages the creation of a joint venture with an initial authorized capital of 2 million euros, as well as the construction of a microprocessor, contactless and other plastic cards producing plant in Tashkent in 2019-2020 with a production capacity of 75 million units per year.
According to the document, the company will issue annually 8 million ID-cards (citizen/non-resident/stateless/birth certificate), 3 million driver's licenses, 6 million data pages for foreign passports, 25 million SIM cards, 10 million bank cards and etc.
By September 1, 2019, a roadmap will be submitted to the government to expedite the transition to the provision of state and public services using microprocessor, contactless and other plastic cards.
Bukhara to host Uzbekistan – Israel Agribusiness Forum
On May 23, 2019, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Israel Said Rustamov met with the Senior Vice President of the Ministry of Agriculture of Israel for Agricultural Innovations, Michal Levy.
At the meeting, issues of expanding bilateral cooperation were discussed, primarily in terms of introducing advanced Israeli agrotechnologies and know-how in Uzbekistan, which allow to obtain high production results in a relatively short time and with less resources.
Michal Levy will head the delegation of Israel, which will visit Uzbekistan on May 26-30 to establish a practical partnership.
It includes representatives of more than 15 leading Israeli companies operating in the areas of micro-irrigation and water use, greenhouse and poultry farming, meat and dairy production, development of highly efficient solutions for cluster farms and other areas.
In the city of Bukhara, it is planned to organize Uzbekistan – Israel Agribusiness Forum with presentations, B2B meetings, as well as a visit to “Bukhoro-Agro” Free Economic Zone.
It is planned to hold official talks between representatives of government agencies, organize a presentation workshop for business circles of the country, in Tashkent.
The visit of a representative Israeli delegation will become one of the largest bilateral economic events with Israel over the past few years.

Almaty hosted negotiations on Uzbekistan – Kazakhstan state border demarcation
On May 20-24, 2019, Almaty hosted the regular meeting of Uzbekistan – Kazakhstan Joint Demarcation Commission.
At the meeting, the parties approved the map of field demarcation activities on Uzbekistan – Kazakhstan State border for 2019 and prepared draft final documents on demarcation of individual areas of interstate border.
Following the meeting, a Protocol was signed.
The meeting was held in a traditionally friendly atmosphere.

Meeting with the U.S. Ambassador
On May 24, 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Daniel Rosenblum.
Accepting copies of his credentials, the Minister warmly welcomed the Ambassador and wished him success in his responsible mission.
Prospects for deepening Uzbekistan – American relations in the context of implementation of the agreements reached during the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the United States in May 2018 and high- and highest-level talks were discussed at the meeting.
The parties confirmed their mutual interest in further development of bilateral cooperation in political, trade-economic, investment, cultural-humanitarian and other fields.
International and regional issues were also considered at the meeting.

New South Korean Ambassador presents hıs credentials
Today, Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov hosted the newly appointed Ambassador of the Korea Republic, Kang Jae Kwon, the Ministry said.
After the ceremony of presenting a copy of credentials, the Minister congratulated the Ambassador on his posting to Uzbekistan and wished him success.
The parties touched upon the implementation of the agreements reached during the meetings of the leaders of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea in Seoul in November 2017 and Tashkent in April of this year, as well as the prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation.
Uzbekistan – Afghanistan Border Trade Zone starts its activity
Uzbekistan – Afghanistan business forum was held at the Educational Center for Training Afghan Citizens under the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in Surkhandarya region.
The opening ceremony of Uzbekistan – Afghanistan Border Trade Zone, created at “Termiz kargo” Export Center of Termez district took place within the framework of the forum.
All modern conditions for entrepreneurs of the neighboring country are created in the Border Trade Zone. Afghan entrepreneurs have at their disposal a customs terminal, a hotel, a restaurant and service points. Provision of documents based on the principle of “one window” plays an important role in the process of their execution without any obstacles, and most importantly – quickly and efficiently.
More than three hundred types of food, textile, leather and footwear, pharmaceutical, construction, automotive products of domestic production are exposed in the pavilions operating here.
In 2019-2020, 14 projects worth 30 million USD are planned to be implemented by Afghan entrepreneurs in industry, services and agriculture with participation of direct investment.
Presentations of commodity producers of Uzbekistan were held within the framework of the forum. Mutually beneficial documents were signed at B2B meetings.
UZBEKISTAN - THE COUNTRY OF TOURISM
Namangan to host Flowers Festival
On May 26 – June 1, Namangan will host Flowers Festival. Thousands of tourists and experts from around the world visit the festival annually.
Guests from such countries as South Korea, Russia, Turkey, Netherlands, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are invited to the event.
It is expected that this festival will help to promote tourism attractiveness of Namangan and region as a whole.
The festival starts with a parade, which will be attended by 100 cars decorated with flowers.
The Babur Park will host an exhibition of flowers, organized by florists, heads of enterprises and city organizations. In total, the event will be attended by more than 150 entrepreneur-florists, more than 100 companies and organizations will present flowers. It should be noted that 3.5 million saplings were planted in last year’s festival for creating floral arrangements. This year, their number will exceed 5 million.
A number of foreign media representatives, including from Russia, China, Turkey, Iran, India and Kyrgyzstan will cover this colorful event.
