Uzbekistan to hold large-scale privatization of state-owned enterprises

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev adopted a Resolution "On measures to further improve the mechanisms of attracting foreign direct investment in the economy of the Republic".

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev adopted a Resolution "On measures to further improve the mechanisms of attracting foreign direct investment in the economy of the Republic".

According to the document, the country will intensify efforts to attract foreign direct investment through:

- implementation of state blocks of shares in the authorized capital of economic entities in the field of chemical, oil and gas industry, engineering, banking and insurance organizations;

- development of ready-made investment proposals to attract foreign direct investment;

- extensive use of investment and business forums, presentations and marketing campaigns;

- creation of priority areas for the implementation of public-private partnership projects.

Meeting with the Special Adviser to the Supreme Leader of Iran

On May 1, 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the Special Adviser to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Chairman of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations of Iran Kamal Kharazi.

The parties discussed bilateral, international and regional issues.

At the meeting, the mutual interest in cooperation in political, trade, economic, investment, transport and communication, cultural, humanitarian and other fields was confirmed.

Issues of interaction within the UN, SCO, OIC and other organizations were considered. The Iranian party confirmed its participation in the Second OIC Summit on Science and Technology 2020 in Tashkent.

The sides spoke for holding regular inter-MFA political consultations and meetings of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

At the meeting, special attention was paid to prospects for building the Mazar-i-Sharif – Herat railway, the importance of full implementation of Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Oman transport corridor agreement for strengthening interregional ties was noted.

The parties also considered issues of increasing tourist, cultural and humanitarian exchanges.

Ambassador of Iran Bahman Agharazi Dormani attended the negotiations.

Sergei Lavrov to travel to Uzbekistan on May 2

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will travel to Uzbekistan on a working visit on May 2. He will be hosted by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Uzbekistan Foreign Ministry said.

The program of the visit includes talks on the implementation of the previously reached Uzbek-Russian various sector deals. The sides are expected to discuss the regional security issues, including facilitating the launch of the peace process in Afghanistan.

On Friday, Sergey Lavrov will attend the 11th meeting of the member-states to the memorandum of understanding on regional cooperation in drug control in Tashkent.

Agreement between Uzbekistan and France on air traffic comes into force

Starting from May 1, 2019, the agreement between the Government of Uzbekistan and the Government of France on air traffic, signed on July 20, 2016 in the city of Tashkent, comes into force.

The agreement regulates the development and operation of bilateral international air services by the designated airlines.

According to the provisions of the document, the designated airlines of each party will enjoy the appropriate rights for landing on the territory of the state of the other party at agreed points and flying without landing through their territory.

In order to develop air links between Uzbekistan and France, the agreement provides for the provision of privileges to aviation enterprises, ensuring regular flights and exemption on the basis of reciprocity from customs duties, taxes and other payments.

In addition, the document establishes norms regulating issues in the field of aviation security and the resolution of possible disputes between aviation enterprises of the two countries, as well as other conditions for the implementation of mutual cooperation.

The agreement will give a positive impetus to the development of bilateral cooperation, will open up new prospects for further expansion of trade and economic relations between the parties and will contribute to the formation of a mutually beneficial transportation market.

Festivel “rose of the east”

Tashkent to host Children’s and Youth Creativity Festival

On May 3-8, 2019, Tashkent will host International Festival of Children’s and Youth Creativity “Rose of the East”.

Goals and importance of this event were discussed at the press conference devoted to this creative project. The event was organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan in cooperation with Ardus joint venture and Zarafshon concert hall.

The festival is aimed at identifying young talents, promoting development of children’s creative potential and youth creativity.

The event will be attended by children from Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. Participants will demonstrate their talents in pop singing and choreography. The events will take place in Zarafshon concert hall, Ashgabat Park and Turkiston Palace in Tashkent.
