President approves measures to develop chemical industry

According to the decree, the state share and the share of JSC "Uzkimyosanoat" in the authorized capital of JSC "Samarkandkimyo", JV JSC "Elektrohimzavod" and JSC "Jizzah plastic", JSC "Ferganaazot" will be sold to private investors at market value.

A presidential resolution has defined main directions of further development and diversification of the chemical industry of the Republic.

The document approved the Roadmap, according to which the production of chemical products set to increase by 4.5 times in 2018-2030, including mineral fertilizers – 2 times (from 1.2 million tons to 2.4 million tons), exports – 4 times, as well as the diversification of the industry by bringing the share of organic chemistry products from 7% to 54%.

President approved the concept of cooperation with compatriots living abroad

The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved the Concept of State Policy in the field of cooperation with compatriots living abroad.

The presidential decree notes that despite the importance and growing urgency for developing ties with compatriots, a number of problems still remain intact and keep on hindering fruitful cooperation and the full involvement of their potential in the qualitative improvement of the carried out reforms.

These include low levels of productivity and the presence of fragmentation in the organization of contacts between government agencies, lack of comprehensive and long-term strategy to support the activities of compatriots' organizations aimed at preserving and promoting the Uzbek language, culture and traditions. It also highlights insufficient attention to work with the youth of Uzbekistan studying abroad and lack of employment opportunities after returning to the country.

The document defines the following as the main objectives of the state policy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of cooperation with compatriots:

• assisting in the implementation of the rights and freedom of compatriots abroad in accordance with generally recognized principles and norms of international law, the laws of the country of residence and on the basis of international treaties of the Republic of Uzbekistan;

• supporting the activities of compatriots aimed at sharing cultural, scientific and spiritual heritage of Uzbekistan, preservation and development of the Uzbek language, its culture and traditions in the countries of residence of compatriots and expanding their educational opportunities in Uzbekistan;

• development and strengthening of relations with compatriots and organizations created by them, wishing to contribute to the socio-economic development of the Republic of Uzbekistan and help build up its mutually beneficial and friendly relations with foreign countries;

• creation of favorable legal, social and economic conditions for the implementation of professional, including entrepreneurial, investment, scientific, educational and cultural activities by compatriots in the territory of Uzbekistan;

• attracting the potential of compatriots to support large-scale socio-economic and socio-political reforms in Uzbekistan, helping to further strengthen the international image of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan, Turkey to jointly develop two gold deposits in Samarkand

On October 25, 2018, the State Committee of the Republic Uzbekistan on Geology and Mineral Resources and TAŞYAPI Construction of Turkey signed an agreement for the development of two gold deposits in Samarkand region, the press service of the committee reported.

It is said that the sides will jointly explore and develop Galabulok and Kushtepa deposits in Samarkand.

The Turkish company is planning to carry out drilling operations at the sites and to work out a preliminary viability study for the development project within four months.

Provided that the results of the first phase of the project are positive, the sides will conduct negotiations on the forms and conditions for mutual cooperation in the development of the deposits.

In accordance with the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan dated 31 May, 2017, the gold-quartz and gold-sulphide-quartz ores at the two deposit sites are estimated to contain about 5.9 tons of gold.

The government of Uzbekistan has approved, in total, 31 promising sites as well as 12 deposits with estimated reserves of 151 tons of gold and 1.200 tons of silver.

The State Committee of Uzbekistan on Geology and Mineral Resources together with the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey inked co-op agreements to study 3 prospective gold ore sites in Jizzakh and Navoi.

Reflection of Uzbekistan – Kyrgyzstan friendship

Within the framework of Culture Days of the Kyrgyz Republic in Uzbekistan, an exhibition of works of applied art and a photo exhibition dedicated to the life, work and art of famous writer Chingiz Aitmatov were organized at Tashkent House of Photography.

Part of the exhibition introduces the life and multifaceted activities of the writer, who made a great contribution to the development of literature, the other – with the artisans and craftsmen of Kyrgyzstan who have been actively working in recent years.

Photos of difficult childhood years of the writer, terrible days of the war, his activities as a writer and public figure were presented at the exhibition.

Uzbekistan – Kyrgyzstan: Friendship evening

Uzbekistan is widely celebrating Culture Days of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Within the framework of the event, a concert was held at the State Academic Grand Theater of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi with participation of masters of art and creative youth of Kyrgyzstan. Representatives of ministries and departments, creative organizations, national cultural centers, music fans were invited to the concert.

A discussion of creative plans for the future was held at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan with participation of Kyrgyz colleagues. The Cinema Palace named after Alisher Navoi presented a film by cinematographers of the neighboring country. Events of the Culture Days will also take place in ancient and forever young Samarkand.

– During the Culture Days, we joined the rich heritage of Uzbekistan people, – said Kurmanjon Akmatova, a musician of Kambarkan Ensemble. – Visited the holy places and historical sites of Tashkent. Visited the museums. We held a creative dialogue with representatives of arts. Such events are very important for expanding our horizons.

State Security Service of Uzbekistan detained distinguished leaders of terrorist organizations who fought in Syria

The State Security Service (SSS), together with the secret services of foreign countries, detained and returned several militants of Uzbek origin from Syria to Uzbekistan, Kun.uz correspondent reports.

They were the leaders and responsible persons of the international terrorist organizations “Katibatul Imam-al-Bukhariy” and “Katibatul Tawhid wa Jihad” acting in Syria and endangering the security of Uzbekistan.

The first detainee was the leader of the “Katibatul Imam-al Bukhariy” terrorist organization in Syria. He was born in 1984 in Surkhandarya region. In 2009-2010, he was a member of the underground cell "Jihadists" in Surkhandarya. In 2011, he left in transit through Russia and Turkey to Syria, where he underwent terrorist training.

The second person was responsible for funding the “Katibatul Imam-al Bukhariy” terrorist organization in Syria, hiring and transferring new members to it. He was born in 1985 in Andijan region. In 2014, he went to Syria to join his accessories.

Another citizen joined the “Katibatul Tavhid wa Jihad” organization in 2015 and was responsible for meeting new members in Turkey and transferring them to Syria. He was born in 1993 in Namangan region. In 2011, he left through Pakistan to Afghanistan and became a member of the terrorist organization "Union of Islamic Jihad", after passing the practice of subversive activities, participated in oppositions against government forces.

During their stay abroad, these citizens used fake documents and introduced themselves as Uyghurs.

In addition, the SSS officers returned another Uzbek citizen, who was also a member of the “Katibatul Tawhid wa Jihad” terrorist organization.

This person was actively involved in raising funds for the financial support of the “Katibatul Tawhid wa Jihad” terrorist organization, as well as recruiting new members and sending them to Syria. He was born in 1990 in Syrdarya region.

At present, criminal cases instituted against these persons in accordance with the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan. Investigations are being carried out.
