In January-March 2018 Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover was 7,9 billion USD
In January-March 2018 the republic’s foreign trade turnover was 7,9 billion USD , of which exports – 4,1 billion USD, imports – 3,8 billion USD. The balance of foreign trade was 249,4 million USD.
Export of energy carriers and oil products increased by 91,4 % as compared to the same period of the previous year due to exports of natural gas by 2,3 times, machinery and equipment by 35,4 %, of which boilers, equipment and mechanical devices by 24,6 %, transformers and batteries by 68,6 %, monitors and projectors by 3,3 times.
The volume of exports of food products increased by 49,9 % due to an increase in exports of wheat by 21,6 % and fruit and vegetable products by 51,7 %.
In the import structure the main share belongs to machinery and equipment - 37,5 % and chemical products and articles thereof - 14,4 %.
In January-March 2018 the balance of foreign trade was USD 249,4 million, including minus USD 231,3 million with CIS countries and USD 480,7 million with other countries.
Among the CIS countries the main foreign trade partners are Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine, Tajikistan and Tadjikistan (their share in the foreign trade turnover is 30,3 %), among other countries - China, Turkey, the Republic of Korea, Afghanistan, Germany, Latvia, Iran, France (33,4 %).
Exports of fruit and vegetable products amounted to USD 110,8 million, or increased compared to the same period of the last year by 51,7 %. Of the total volume of fruit and vegetable products the share of fruit and berries is 22,4 % (increased by 27,1 % as compared to the same period of the last year), vegetables – 57,2 % (69,8 %), grapes – 15,7 % (by 16,3 %).
In the export of fruits and vegetables the main foreign trade partners are Kazakhstan (37,4 % of the total), Afghanistan (13,1 %), Russia (11,8 %), Turkey (5,9 %), Vietnam (4,9 %), China (3,8 %), Kyrgyzstan (2,6 %), Iran (2,4 %), India (2,2 %).
The export volume of fruit and vegetables was 182,8 thousand tons, or increased by 84,9 % compared to the same period of the last year. Of the total volume of fruit and vegetable products, the number of fruit and berries is 23,1 thousand tones (increased by 15,8 % compared to the same period of the last year), vegetables – 133,9 thousand tons (2,3 times), grapes – 19,5 thousand tons (decreased by 2,7 %), peanuts – 6,2 thousand tons (4,8 times) and melons and watermelons fresh - 10,9 tons (6,4 times).

Meeting with the Ambassador of Greece
On April 12, 2018, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov received Andreas Friganas, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic with the residence in Moscow.
Minister congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment to Uzbekistan and wished success on a high and responsible post after a brief ceremony of presenting credentials.
During the conversation, views were exchanged on priority areas for further strengthening the Uzbekistan – Greece dialogue in various spheres.
The sides noted new positive trends in bilateral relations. In particular, over the past six months, two business forums have been held with participation of representatives of business circles, a Memorandum on cooperation between the chambers of commerce and industry of Uzbekistan and Athens has been signed, mutually beneficial projects are being developed, as well as contacts between higher education institutions of the two countries have been intensified.
As it was emphasized, numerous meetings of the delegation of leading Greece companies in Uzbekistan should facilitate the search for new areas of cooperation.
Mutual interest in resumption of regular inter-MFA political consultations, meetings of Intergovernmental Committee on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation, which allow to identify and transfer the existing significant potential of interaction into practice was confirmed. In the context of discussing individual international and regional problems, issues of mutual support within the UN and other multilateral structures were considered.
New stage of friendly relations between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan
An open dialogue on “Uzbekistan – Afghanistan relations: at a new stage of political progress” was held at the educational center on training Afghan citizens under the Ministry of higher and secondary special education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in Termez.
This conference, which was attended by the permanent members of the UN Security Council, representatives of the Shanghai cooperation organization countries, aroused great interest among international experts. The opinion of the Head of Uzbekistan that, in order to ensure the success of peace process, it is important to provide the Afghans the initiative to choose the format, time and venue of peace talks, became an important step in finding a solution to a very complex conflict that has lasted for quite some time.
It is also noteworthy that Uzbekistan serves as an example in establishment of relations and cooperation with Afghanistan by neighboring states in trade, economic, transport, communication, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres. In particular, Uzbekistan, which is the initiator of restoration stability and economic recovery in the neighboring country, is involved in Afghanistan in implementation of many projects in the spheres of mining, construction, energy, education. With the assistance of Uzbekistan, high-voltage electric and fiber-optic cable lines, water supply system, bridges and railways were built for the neighbors. They are supplied with oil products, electricity, fertilizers, polyethylene bags, food and other consumer goods. Assistance is being provided for reconstruction of the economy of the neighboring state, creation of new jobs and improvement of transit potential.
The opening in Termez district of an educational center on training Afghan citizens at the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan is a vivid confirmation of ancient friendly ties between the two countries. This educational institution is important for training qualified specialists with secondary special and higher education taking into account the needs of the Afghan side for socio-economic, transport, communication and other spheres. About 100 Afghan young boys and girls are studying in their professions.
During the event, participants received answers to all their questions. Students of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan exchanged views on issues related to science, education, culture, art and other spheres.
Culture Days of Belarus in Tashkent
Culture Days of the Republic of Belarus has begun in Tashkent.
In this regard, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a meeting of heads of ministries of culture of the two countries.
The program of Culture Days of Belarus is full of various and interesting events. Thus, Cinema Palace named after Alisher Navoi is showing Belarusian films. The meeting of members of the delegation with domestic functionaries of cinematography in “Uzbekkino” National Agency will make it possible to outline new prospects for cooperation in this sphere.
A concert will be held at the State Academic Grand Theater named after Alisher Navoi with participation of artists and young performers of Belarus. A concert, organized in Turkiston Palace, will allow the compatriots to join the Belarusian musical culture.
Within the framework of the event, the Belarusian culture and art workers are visiting the sights, historical monuments and museums of Tashkent. Such events are an important factor in further expansion, enrichment and strengthening of cultural ties between people.
