Issues of defense construction and development of the Armed Forces are considered
On October 10, 2018, an official meeting on the issues of defense construction and development of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Issues of further improving the combat readiness and combat capability of the army, equipping them with modern weapons and military equipment, modernizing existing weapons, enhancing military and military-technical cooperation with the countries of the region and the world as a whole, developing the infrastructure of military camps, systems of technical and logistic support of the army, as well as social security of servicemen, members of their families and veterans of the Armed Forces were discussed.
Interim results of joint activities of the command of military districts with leadership of the military-administrative sectors on military-patriotic education of youth, assisting commanders of formations and units in organizing effective daily activities of the army, enhancing the social protection of military personnel were also considered.
Reports of responsible officials of the Ministry of Defense on activities carried out for increasing the effectiveness of combat and spiritual-educational training of the army, activities of government bodies, unions, formations and units, higher military education institutions, as well as local military authorities were heard.
According to the Ministry of Defense, during the reporting period, more than 120 operational-combat training activities were held, which were attended by over 15 thousand servicemen of relevant ministries and agencies, as well as representatives of the state and economic governing bodies, and local governing bodies at places.
As a result of implemented activities, the combat capabilities of military districts increased significantly, completely new units of permanent readiness and special purpose were formed. Due to taken measures, the effectiveness of combat training of troops has been increased, temporary indicators of combat readiness of units have been reduced by half, and the level of professionalism of the personnel has significantly increased.
In a short period of time, an updated Academy of the Armed Forces was created, incorporating advanced foreign technologies and modern teaching aids.
Following the meeting, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev identified priorities and tasks for further improving the activities of the Armed Forces and increasing the country’s defense capability. Appropriate decisions have been taken on further reforming the Armed Forces.

On October 10, 2018, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting devoted to discussing the state of socio-economic development of the country for the first 9 months of this year, as well as expected results by the end of the year.
It was attended by the heads of the Cabinet of Ministers and relevant economic departments.
Development of financial market is an important factor in further liberalization of the economy and creation of favorable conditions for entrepreneurship.
In this regard, large-scale reforms have been implemented in the country. In particular, the Decree of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev “On priority measures for liberalizing monetary policy” of September 2, 2017 contributed to fundamental reforming the current system of currency regulation, liberalization of monetary policy, and creation of equal conditions for all business entities in foreign trade.
Implementation of measures envisaged by the decree contributes to improvement of business environment, increasing the investment potential of the country, due to which the activity of economic sectors will further intensify.
Liberalization of foreign exchange market requires increasing the liquidity of the economy and directing free funds for implementation of important investment and infrastructure projects.
In turn, it is important to develop the capital market, attract free funds of economic entities, banks and insurance companies to important projects. Implementation of new reforms in this direction will expand the possibilities for balanced financing of the State budget expenditures.
At the meeting, reports of responsible leaders on implementation of the state program “Every family is an entrepreneur” were heard.
The President of Uzbekistan gave relevant instructions on development of the capital market in the country in accordance with the Action Strategy, issuing securities for attracting free funds of economic entities, commercial banks and insurance companies for implementation of important investment projects, as well as successfully completing the current year and achieving all forecasted main macroeconomic indicators.

Special attention is paid in our country to providing comprehensive support for entrepreneurs, encouraging the attraction of direct investments. As a result, major promising projects are also being implemented in the regions, and the share of the private sector in the economy is increasing (currency rates of CB RU from 11.10.2018, 1$=8181.08 soums).
High-quality products of Narimteks are in great demand also in the foreign market. The enterprise, outfitted with modern equipment, is constantly working to increase export volumes and master the production of new types of goods.
In 2008, when the company was set up, it specialized in tailoring women’s clothing on ordinary sewing machines. In 2012-2015, together with Chinese partners, the production process was modernized. Cutting-edge sewing, weaving, finishing machines were bought and installed. As a result, the team mastered the production of coats, jackets, suits, and the enterprise secured a robust niche in the consumer market, created new jobs.
During his trip to the Fergana region on June 12-13 this year, the head of our state familiarized himself with the technological process at the enterprise, gave instructions on attracting advanced technologies to production, and raising the qualification of workers. In accordance with these instructions, specific measures were developed here and practical work started.

First step towards construction of the first nuclear power station in Uzbekistan
Hyatt Regency Tashkent hosted an international workshop on “Construction of the first nuclear power station in Uzbekistan. Experience and advanced technologies of Russia”.
The event, organized by the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Uzatom Atomic Energy Development Agency, Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation and International Atomic Energy Agency, was attended by domestic and foreign experts in the field of nuclear energy, representatives of relevant ministries and departments.
Director General of Uzatom Agency J.Mirzamakhmudov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Uzbekistan V.Turdenev and others noted that reforms carried out in Uzbekistan bring the country to a new level of development in all sectors, cooperation with foreign partners, in particular, Russia, is strengthening in this process.
At the workshop, held in accordance with the decision of building the first nuclear power station in Uzbekistan, representatives of Rosatom Corporation and International Atomic Energy Agency discussed the effectiveness of using Russia's experience in construction of nuclear power stations.
As it was noted, the nuclear power station will be important not only for improving people’s wellbeing, but also for development of economy, science, technology, staff capacity.
Participants of the workshop were informed about advanced technologies of Russian nuclear industry, specialists training program for construction of nuclear power stations, informing public about the project implementation.

The Eighth Annual Central Asia Trade Forum to be held in Tashkent
Flagship international business event, the Eighth Annual Central Asia Trade Forum, will be hold for the first time in Uzbekistan. The event, organized by the U.S. Agency for international Development (USAID) and co-hosted by the Ministry for Foreign Trade of the Government of Uzbekistan, will be held on 17-18 October 2018 in Tashkent.
The Central Asian Trade Forum (CATF) is an annual event attracted by representatives of the business circles of Central Asian countries, international organizations, prominent political and public figures of the region and the world. This year over 1000 delegates are expected to attend the forum.
The memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the US Agency for International Development on holding the Central Asian Trade Forum in Tashkent was signed during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan S. Mirziyoyev to the United States in May 2018.
The Central Asia Trade Forum (CATF) provides a unique platform for businesses to explore new opportunities to reach the more than 70 million potential customers in Central Asia’s emerging markets. Business executives, leaders and industry experts from Asia, the United States, Europe and the Middle East have been using the forum as platform to share ideas, strike deals and forge new partnerships for future cooperation.
This year’s forum theme, New Horizons in Trade and Investment, reflects Central Asia’s increasing openness to regional and international trade, particularly in Uzbekistan, which has embraced a series of measures, from currency liberalization to reforms in the business sector, to transform the country.
A concurrent trade exhibition will showcase businesses from a variety of sectors across the region, including transportation, tourism, information technology, equipment manufacturing and horticultural production and processing, among others.
Tashkent Biennale – a platform for new creative ideas
The VIII Tashkent International Biennale of Contemporary Art kicked off at the Central Exhibition Hall of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan.
Representatives of various ministries and agencies, creative organizations, diplomatic corps and international organizations accredited in the country, art lovers, students were invited to the opening of this major international enlightenment event.
The VIII Tashkent International Biennale of Contemporary Art demonstrates to foreign artists the scope of good aspirations in this direction, contributes to further integration of Uzbek masters of the brush into the world of artistic and creative processes, familiarizing art lovers to the works of talented youth, skilled artists and foreign creative workers.
The current Biennale of Contemporary Art is held under the symbolic motto “Art and Technology. Pros and Cons”. According to the Chairman of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan Akmal Nuriddinov, this enlightenment project is aimed at clarifying the role, tasks, duties and responsibilities of artists in society at the current rapid pace of technical progress.
